On September 4th, members of the Ride Beyond Crew took to the start line of the ultimate ultracycling challenge: Badlands 2022.
Martijn van Strien (aka Fernwee), Botje Jelmer, and Finley Newmark pedaled off on what would be their home for the next few days. Although it was Jelmer and Newmark’s first time taking on this gravel grind, Fernwee was able to share his experience from the year prior with his comrades.
With the route encompassing some of the most diverse and desolate places in Europe, they had to dig deep to finish this incredible feat. Covering 780 kilometers and +15,000 meters in 3-5 days, they cycled across deserts, mountain ranges, and abandoned villages near the Mediterranean coast of Spain.
Mental fortitude and physical endurance were pushed to the absolute limit, as these riders documented their triumphs, trials, and tribulations throughout the entirety of the event.
